German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence

The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence is one of the largest non-profit research institutes in the field of innovative software technology and applications based on artificial intelligence (AI).

Two DFKI departments participate in APRIL: the DFKI Robotics Innovation Center (RIC) and the DFKI Laboratory Niedersachsen (PBR).

The RIC is dedicated to the development of cognitive and adaptive robotic systems for various application areas. These include robots for deep-sea, offshore, and space exploration, but also adaptive automation for industrial production and logistics.

The second one, specifically the Plan-Based Robot Control group (PBR), focuses mainly on 3D mapping and modeling, semantic sensor data interpretation and the generation and execution monitoring of action plans. Fields of application include automatic agricultural machines and driverless transport systems.
